It all started in the summer of 2023 in Anniston, Alabama. Malvika was a fourth-year medical student, juggling hospital rotations and OB-GYN residency applications. Avi had just wrapped up his pediatric residency and was jumping into life as a brand-new pediatrician at his family’s clinic.
Malvika did a pediatric rotation with Avi’s father, Dr. Naresh Purohit, who had originally asked Malvika to “find someone around here for my son.” Little did we know, a seed was planted!
After months of constant texting—sharing stories, jokes, and daily moments—along with dinners around town, long walks, and spontaneous coffee breaks, our connection steadily deepened. What began as casual companionship grew into something meaningful. We found comfort in each other's presence and ease in every conversation, and before we knew it, a beautiful friendship had taken root.
It wasn’t long before our first official date. Avi took Malvika to Chez Fon Fon in Birmingham, Alabama—a charming French bistro that set just the right mood. Over clinking glasses of champagne and conversations filled with laughter and memories from the months of growing friendship, one thing became clear: we were ready to turn the page and begin a new chapter together.
It didn’t take long after our first date for our families to come together, blending seamlessly as if they’d known each other for years. Our first trip as a couple was to Destin, Florida—a place where every moment felt effortless and full of joy. We spent our days laughing under the warm sun, sharing stories, and creating memories that made it seem like we’d known each other for much longer.
On their first international trip to Tulum, Mexico, Avi felt certain. After months of laughter, shared experiences, and growing closeness, he knew Malvika was the one. In a natural and unforgettable moment, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. With a smile and a yes, he placed a ring on her finger, beginning a lifetime of shared dreams and adventures
Shortly after the proposal, both families came together to celebrate the Roka Ceremony—a meaningful pre-wedding ritual that symbolizes the official commitment and union between the two families as they come together to honor the bond between the couple.

Prasanthi is one of Malvika’s sweetest and closest friends since middle school. They enjoyed doing swim team together, and love to do virtual wine nights now!

Prit and Malvika were roommates for the first year of medical school, and it felt like she was her older sister. They got very close, and loved to play with her dog Alpha, and have loved to see each other grow over the years.
One of Malvika’s best medical school friends, this young doctor knows how to be the most caring and best friend to a girl. Felicia and Malvika grew incredibly close throughout the medical school process, and love seeing each other grow through their marriages and education.
Also medical school roommates, Sarina is a butterfly of a person. Seriously, you will not find anyone more bubbly than her, she will light up any room she walks in to.
Medical school roommates in Anniston, AL, Jenny got to see how everything unfolded. Malvika and Jenny grew incredibly close throughout their rotations, and have remained this close through residency.
Abhishek Purohit is the groom’s brother. He grew up known to be mischievous, but now, he’s turned into a well behaved young man. I will say that both of us still have our moments together, where we find ourselves chuckling as if we were ten years old.
Arjit is Avi’s cousin. There are too many stories between us to share in a short few sentences. Ask him about our microwave story, it’s a good one!
Nico is one of Avi’s close undergraduate friends. Amongst our undergraduate friends group, Nico is the one known to keep up with all the Avi quotes that accumulated throughout college. Otherwise, he was always my go to man for advice throughout college.
John Powers is one of Avi’s close undergraduate friends. We met at a restaurant through another friend. Then, we became study buddies throughout multiple difficult college courses. He’s known for coining my college nickname, “Bobby.”
Qasim is one of Avi’s close medical school friends. Qasim is known for his wittiness, and he’s quite a “humerus” man. My orthopedic friend over here is single and ready to mingle!
Raul is one of Avi’s close medical school friends. Raul is always the life of the party. He will likely be present at the bar ready for a drink with you. He goes by “Papi.”
Siddharth is Malvika’s little cousin. He likes to have a good time! If you are a soccer fan, he will be your guy to chat about the next big game!
Varun is Malvika’s cousin. Varun and I spent two weeks together in Anniston, when he came to rotate in our office. He is charismatic and friendly to talk too. He can strike a conversation about anything!
Bhavya is a successful immigration attorney in Atlanta, and has been the inspiration behind many of Malvika's achievements. They love going on walks, to the spa, and watching Gilmore Girls.
Jayant is the sweetest dad to Malvika, and he enjoys sharing his time with his loved ones and his beloved dog. Even as the father of the bride, he and Avi have a wonderful relationship, and he has welcomed him into the family with open arms.
Naresh Purohit is Avi's father. He is a one of a kind man with a vibrant personality. Keep your eyes out on the dance floor for him!
Manju is Avi's mother. She has a warm, nurturing presence whose love and care is adored by all.
